I am 32 almost 33 years old and have never done a blog. Maybe I will like it, maybe I won't. I just don't know. Since I have to write a blog for right now, I will go ahead and do it on what I have gone through this year. I have gone through being a 1st year teacher at a middle school 6th grade teacher in a low income part of Dallas. I am not use to the type of students that I have had this year. I have worked with 6th graders before in the area that I live and the two types of 6th graders are like night and day. The 6th graders that I have taught this year know about things that I would have never imagined 6th graders knowing. They know about the different types of pot and guns. Students talk like sailors and have been caught with pot on them and in school and others have been caught having sex. I have never caught kids having sex but some of the other teachers have. These kids are already asking when they can drop out of school. They have no respect for their elders or for anybody of authority. There are some that are awesome and I am very grateful to have had them in my class to help balance the kids that could care less to be there. I love all of my students, but the ones that want to be there make my day at least a little bit less stressful. Being a teacher has given me a new look on some of today's youth. They are totally consumed by their phones. They love to talk. I think that they talk just to hear their own voice sometimes. I see great things in all of my students. It is just a matter of some of them looking at life a different way for all that greatness to be able to show itself. My year had been full with kids with ADHD, emotional disorders, dyslexia, and other problems that have not been diagnosed yet. I have had what feels like a thousand observations and meetings about observations. I have had nights where I just need something a little bit harder to drink that water or tea. At the end of the day though I still love what I do and still love each and every one of my students even if they make me want to pull out my hair at times.
